Carrying Out My Game Plan

In order to be able to advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources, I will need to improve my knowledge in these areas.  I have located a number of websites (listed below) that have helped me to begin doing this.  I also have made arrangements to work with the Library Media Specialist in my school.

I have already made progress in my goal to engage in professional growth and leadership.   I am working on a teacher based team to discuss how we can help certain subgroups in our school become more successful.  We are examining data from EVAAS (Educational Value-Added Assessment System) that predicts how students will do on the Ohio Graduation Test.  I have made a screencast that shows other teachers how to log-on to this website and how to navigate it to obtain the data for their students.  I shared this screencast on our school's Professional Development Moodle page.

  1. Lauren,
I think copyright is a big issue in our century. Students like to use different resources without giving any credit. They think that if they give reference, the value of their work decreases. I think teachers should teach the importance of giving references and respecting others work. I think you selected very good starting point for your GAME plan. Congratulations.

  2. Lauren, you are moving in the right direction. Your first goal is similar to mine; I also explored some websites on the issue of intellectual property and copyright law. It is could be very scary for grade students when you tell them the consequences of note respecting these laws or violating them. The good news for us is that there is no shortage of information on this topic. Well done on your Game Plan so far!

  3. Lauren,
I am excited to see that you made progress in your goal within weeks. Learning and adopting safe, legal and ethical use of digital technology is very important in this digital age. It is very difficult to control people who are using digital technology, and self control is necessary to protect peoples' rights. Therefore, I admire your efforts. By the way, did you receive any response from your colleagues regarding the screencast that you shared?
